Hello, I have a NTSC Wii that's been modded with a CycloWiz for some time.
It worked well, I got SMG, Soul Calibur Legends, it was all good. Then one day (yesterday) I was playing SC:Legends, and I decided to take a break. I powered down my Wii, then when I went to play some more, I got disc read errors on the Wii menu. I tried a backup of SMG, and Metal Slug, too, and I got disc read errors with them, too. I tried an original copy of Wii Sports, and it worked. I have not installed any updates in the last while. (SMG, and that was about two weeks ago.) I'm a bit worried here. Did my chip crap out on me? Did all my DvDs simultaneously go wonky? More to the point - any idea if it's fixable? |

It could be that randomly there's a short circuit inside the machine..
If you're using the reset-disable wire, that could be it.. or just possible a wire has dropped with gravity and is causing a DRE.. It doesn't sound like the chip has been messed up in any way though.. Look through the SD slot or the ventilation holes next to the serial to see if you can see an LED (also, if you have an upgrade switch installed, make sure it's set to GAME MODE, or OFF <you'll only see the LED if it's in game mode>). |

Hello all posters. This is my first on the forum.
This weekend i had the exact prob as snuffles. Wii sports runs fine but all backups give me disc read errors. And i cant update to 3.5 as i intended... (disc read error!) Two questions: is it possible that the chip died beacause of a general power failure or a overheat, because the wii was turned on for a few days and unfortunately in my house the power is always droping out. The thing is that when i turned on my wii (PAL by the way...), the last game i played and that was still inside my wii, marvel ultimate alliance, came up on the wii menu! And then i took it off, put wii sports, played it, then i try to put another one and nothing. Another thing: my wii doesnt have a on/off switch for the chip. I already got it that way. Dont know how to do it really. Could there be a problem with that? Meaning this one of course. Sorry fothe long text Thanx for the pacience |

I experienced exactly the same problem.
Out of nowhere, backups doesn't work anymore, originals do. Was playing SMG, powered off the machine and an hour later it didn't work. Wii firmware: 3.1e Cycklowiz firmware: 3.6beta Even the DVD with the 3.6beta firmware can't be read. I can't really see the LED without opening the Wii which i prefer not to. Could it be that Nintendo included a "timebomb" that disables the Cyclowiz at a certain date? |

I´ve read some of the posts around here reagarding the same issue.
I think that the cyclowiz ver. is not a question here. Neither the heating problem. For some games the wii firmware version is of course, but it seems to me that an cyclowiz update can solve it but when this hapens we cant upgrade (i couldnt anyway because i haven't got my chip ON/OFF switch with my wii). I cant see if my Cyclowiz LED is on, and i cant open it because i dont have the tools. I'm going to try to meet a guy that makes mods for wii and see if he can help me with that. Has this something to do with the fact that my chip doesn't have the switch, or is it possible that for that reason, a loose wire, or something, is making some kind of short circuit? Was it from a power failure and the chip died? What are the possibilities? Now i just dont want to get riped off by a guy that's going to do the job, saying i got to buy another chip... thanks again |

I was looking on the instalation guide of ver.1.2 (think that's mine...), and i noticed that we can disable de chip by pushing the reset buton.
Could it be disabled still? Is there a way to enable it? |

It probably isn't disabled. You NEED the reset-disable wire installed for that to actually happen, and a short-circuit somehow going through the wire..
Check to see if the LED is on, through the Wii's SD slot or the ventilation holes on the side of the Wii.. If it is SOLID GREEN, there is a firmware that is fully functioning, and all connection points are soldered properly. If it is FLASHING, it means G & V are powering the chip, and there is an issue with the A, B and C points, AND/OR the firmware on the chip is damaged. If it is OFF, it means there is no firmware, or there is an issue with the G & V.. That's pretty much what your LED can tell you. If your Wii isn't reading backups, and it has been installed properly, check to see if the Wii you are using is a DMS, D2A or D2B chipset on the drive (the chip right next to the solder points on the Wii for the chip), and that the D2B has IC legs (if they are cut, you have to microscopically rebuild the legs <professionals only, definately>). If it is a D2C, it WILL NOT WORK. You will need a D2CKey, which is made easy to install with the D2CKey FlexPCB cable, making the soldering a really easy job (www.d2ckey.com and www.d2ckey.com/flexpcb.html) You can check your Wii's chipset (estimate, not 100%) with this and your serial number: http://nintendo-scene.com/wiitracker OR just check the chipset by opening it up to check. Hope that helps, as that is pretty much all the information you'll probably be able to find.. unless your media is bad (the Wii is picky, with sometimes even the best media) <and 4x / low speeds is recommended, and I personally like IMGBurn to burn backups> and/or there is a soldering bridge / short circuit somewhere on the board.. |

Thanks SoraK05
I cant see my LED; the only one i see through the ventilation holes is the power button LED. So I guess it´s OFF. You said that it is a power issue or a firmware issue. All this hapened after i played a burned Marvel Ultimate Alliance (pal). ALL my burned games worked perfectly till then. I even updated wii firmware to 3.0E and although some new burned games didin't load, most off them did. My Cyclowiz version is 1.2, or ver.2.... I think.... As I loaded MUA (PAL) it didn't asked me to do any update. I played it perfectly (only noticed that the game changed my screensize?!; changed it on tv settings...), and i turned off the wii. Maybe four days after, I turned on my wii, the game was on wii menu, took it out, put wii sports, played it, and when I tried to play Dragon Ball 2 (NTSC), that worked before, it gave me a DRE. After that I could'nt play anyone of my burned games. Not even after leaving wii off the plug for two days, not even insisting on the loading of the discs. Does this make any sense to you on this matter? Sorry for the persistence Thanks again Last edited by Minaro; 14th December 2007 at 06:04 PM. |

I'd look at your connections guys. I know its not always the most fun thing in the world, but listen to Sora and take apart your wii (if you're not getting an LED from the chip) and look at your connections. Most of the time that's the only problem. I've had mine for months and haven't had it die on me yet, so i doubt it's a "timebomb" or any other thing.

Oddly enough, I ended up ignoring my Wii since my first post (thanks for the help, though!)
My internet went down for a bit today, though, so I thought "Meh. I may as well try Soul Calibur:Legends again..." Lo and behold, my Wii now works. The question arises, could it have something to do with my internet dropping out for an extended period of time? As you can no doubt see, it works now, as does my Wii. Should I suspect shenanigans from Nintendo? |
