V1 and V2 cards are running on the HW v1.0 Architecture, and V3 cards are running on the HW v1.1 Architecture.
The difference is that the HW v1.1 cards are slimmer and don't have a protruding chip through the sticker, due to a redesign of the card to have it fit easier in the DS and help reduce the amount of defective units, whereas HW v1.0 cards have the protruding chip through the sticker. Besides this, there are NO hardware functionality differences between the two. ONE thing that is different between the two versions is the button to get into the recovery mode for the force-installation of a firmware: On HW v1.0 Cards, the button you hold is SELECT. On HW v1.1 Cards, the buttons you hold are DOWN + B. The reason for this is due to a clash with the FlashMe Recovery Mode in order to reinstall FlashMe from a Bricked DS while installing FlashMe, by holding the SELECT button, without clashing with the CycloDS Evolution's Recovery Mode. **EDIT** There is still a clash with the FlashMe Recovery when using HW v1.1 CycloDS Evolution Cards, as the SELECT button as well as holding DOWN+B trigger the CycloDS Evolution Recovery Mode, unfortunately. Cool, but how do we tell the difference between V1 and V2 cards?

This is really good news for both new customers and people who want to run Flashme to get rid of the warning screen on the DS. Really glad to see it has been sorted. Good job lads.

As far as I know, the HW V1.0 cards have a small PCB sticking out where the sticker is, but the HW V1.1 cards don't stick out at all.
Also, if you hold SELECT while booting into the CycloDS Evolution on a HW V1.0 card, it should say at the top of the screen 'HW v1.0', and same for the HW v1.1 cards when holding DOWN + B. |

After testing the Recovery Mode I came up with the following: (NOTE: This is mainly for those who have AUTO Startup Mode enabled in the DS options as the following wouldn't relate to those who have their DS on Manual Startup...) If you have the 3in1 Exp Pack inserted (with a ROM already flashed to the NOR memory) and want to access the HW 1.1 Recovery Mode using DOWN+B, you have to wait until after the "Warning" screen shows up to hold DOWN and 'B'. This is because the DS already has a native feature built in that is accessed by you holding down the 'B' button on startup. For those who don't know what that feature is, holding down 'B' on startup loads the catridge in the GBA slot (as long as you have selected AUTO Startup Mode in the DS options). So for those that have a game loaded on the NOR memory of the 3in1 Exp Pack your ROM will be started instead of the Recovery Mode if you are holding 'B' right before you startup your DS. Ofcourse this will only be a problem if you are using AUTO Startup Mode and have a GBA cartridge inserted or a ROM already flashed into the NOR Memory of the 3in1 Exp Pack... Also: For those who have already flashed a ROM to the NOR memory and want to erase it for any reason, Hyperlisk made a great piece of homebrew that takes care of that for you. You can get it here: http://www.teamcyclops.com/forum/sho...6&postcount=13 Just thought this would be helpful to some.. Last edited by ILLPLEASA; 7th January 2008 at 11:41 PM. |

Hi All,
I revieved my first Evo today, and I think it is fantastic. Can't wait to get into some of the homebrew I've seen floating around. I do have a concern though, it's HW1.0... So the recovery mode button combo has the conflict that causes issues with flashme. Is there a way of changing the button comination on the 1.0 version hardware, or is it just bad luck for me to get older stock? I am a bit worried about using homebrew without flashing the ds first. Thanks for your help. |

No, it's not possible. The recovery feature is inbuilt and can't be modified on the cards.

![]() EDIT: I found another thread that states all the black ones are V3. Is this confirmed? Last edited by SPBTooL; 8th January 2008 at 06:49 PM. |
